Toni Reinis is an advocate for the homeless who founded SOVA Kosher Food Pantry and served as Southern California Director of the California Homeless and Housing Coalition. Ms. Reinis is the Executive Director of New Directions, a licensed, long-term drug and alcohol treatment program for homeless veterans. New Directions was the first agency in the nation to provide housing for homeless female veterans. Its Women’s Programs offer long-term housing, drug rehabilitation, mental health services, job training and placement, and permanent housing placement. Homeless women veterans have access to two homes where they can recover, meet women who have been through similar experiences, be inspired by alumni who have succeeded in employment and housing, and have a nurturing network of supportive friends to help them through life. Two graduates of the program are gainfully employed in Santa Monica – one at UCLA Women’s Healthcare Associates, the other at Step Up on Second.
