Santa Monica, California – Santa Monica Public Library and the Annenberg Beach House present a special Santa Monica Citywide Reads event, A Touch of Naomi with author Naomi Hirahara and jazz duo Doc & Renee, on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Annenberg Beach House, 415 Pacific Coast Highway.
Santa Monica Citywide Reads is a community reading program that encourages everyone in Santa Monica to read and discuss the same novel in book discussions and special events held throughout the city. The 2012 featured novel is the noir classic, The Lady in the Lake, by Raymond Chandler. The five-week series includes many book discussions and special events featuring contemporary mystery authors who were inspired by the classic work of Raymond Chandler. Included among them is Japanese-American author Naomi Hiraha, a contributor to the short fiction collection Los Angeles Noir, and creator of the mystery fiction series (Snakeskin Shamisen, Blood Hina) featuring amateur sleuth Mas Arai, a Hiroshima survivor and gardener in Los Angeles. For A Touch of Naomi, Ms. Hirahara will read from and discuss her work. Preceding Ms. Hirahara’s talk will be a brief concert by father and daughter duo, Doc & Renee, who will entertain with their torchy songs and sax.
This event is presented free to the public and is open to all. Reservations are required and can be made online at http://annenbergbeachhouse.com/beachculture or by calling 310-458-4904. Seating is first come, first served. Parking for Annenberg Beach House events is $5.00 per vehicle.
The Annenberg Beach House is wheelchair accessible. For special disabled services, call (310) 458-4904 at least one week prior to event to make arrangements.
