Santa Monica, California – With a variety of free materials, programs,
and services Santa Monica Public Library has always been easy on the
wallet. Beginning in October, the Library is presenting Your Library
Stimulus Package – The Library Working for You, a series of programs
designed to educate, inspire and uplift local patrons. The past year has
been difficult for many; the economy, the California budget, and employment
woes have presented challenges for us all. In times like this, the
Library becomes an increasingly popular place to visit, and the Santa Monica
Public Library is making the most of that opportunity. The Library
invites you to utilize these special programs and services:
Meditation in A New York Minute - Presenter Kit Cooper hosts this new monthly series, Quality
of Life Forum, in which featured guests share the things they do and the
perspectives they live by that contribute to their quality of life. For
this program, executive coach and meditation expert Mark Thornton will discuss
his book Meditation in A New York Minute, a guide on decreasing stress
in your life.

Eat Green, Stay Healthy - Acupuncturist and nutritionist Heather Lounsbury offers
sustainable food solutions for families on a budget.

The Survivors Club - The second Quality of Life Forum program, hosted by local resident
Kit Cooper, features author Ben Sherwood. He’ll discuss his book The
Survivors Club, an instructive profile of those who are able to bounce back
from adversity.

Can I Wear My Nose Ring to the Interview? - Those on the hunt for a job, or
even just looking for advice on tightening up their resumes, will enjoy author
Ellen Gordon Reeves’ visit to the Library. Reeves will discuss her
employment advice book, Can I Wear My Nose Ring to the Interview?

Heal Your Recession Depression - Psychologist Judi Bloom discusses how the recession can
affect moods, relationships, and self esteem, and provides tool for helping you
and those around you weather the storm.

Computer Classes - The Library offers free computer classes on topics such as online job
searching, creating a resume, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and
more. For a list of current class offerings, please go to www.smpl.org/classes or call Telephone Reference at (310) 434-2608. Class size is
limited to 12 people; advanced registration is required.
Resume Assistance - The Fairview Branch provides volunteers for one-on-one help creating a
great resume, cover letter, or completing an online job application. Call
(310) 450-0443 for an appointment.
JobNow - A new
online resource at the Library, JobNow is a timely service that provides online
interactive interview coaching with live tutors, and expert resume preparation
assistance and tips. It is available from computers at all library
locations. Santa Monica Public Library cardholders can also use it from
their home computers by visiting the library web site at www.smpl.org.
