The Santa Monica Public Library is now providing free access to two new computer-based services designed to help adults who are re-entering the job market, preparing to take the GED or retooling various basic skills.

JobNow is an online resource that provides access to live coaches via Internet-based chat.  These coaches offer career counseling and job interview tips. Library customers can send their resumes to JobNow’s coaches who will  analyze them and provide expert advice within 24 hours.  Sample resume templates and much more are also available from  JobNow.

The Adult Learning Center is another online resource that provides live assistance from experts in mathematics, reading and writing skills; in the use of Microsoft Office applications and in preparing for the GED examination.

Both JobNow and the Adult Learning Center are available to Santa Monica Public Library cardholders from their home PCs at http://www.smpl.org/research/ .  These online services can also be accessed free of charge at all four Santa Monica Public Library locations. For more information, call the library’s telephone reference service at 310-434-2608 or email reference@smgov.net .
